How to hear X posts read aloud
Frequo reads public posts from X out loud, one after another. Here is what you hear, what it leaves out and how to change the sound.
· 3 min read
A screen reader reads everything on the page, menus included. Frequo only reads posts. It plays them back to back as a radio, grouped into channels, so you can listen the way you would to a station.
How a post sounds
Each clip starts with the account's name and that it is on X. Then the post is read word for word. With the Read setting on Hosted, you also hear short openers and bridges between channels. On Raw post, it is just the name and the post.
- A post is never cut off. If it is too long to read whole, it is skipped.
- A quoted post is read in full when it is short. A long one is named but not read, and the post that quotes it has to make sense without it.
- Links are not read out, other than a plain address like example.com. Pictures and videos are not described.
- Labels such as "Breaking" or "Weather alert" at the start of a post are said on their own first, flat and clear.
- Posts that do not make sense when you only hear them are left out, such as posts under 6 words or posts that only point to a picture or a link.
Whose voice it is
Frequo never imitates the person who wrote a post. Every post is read by a studio AI voice that is clearly labelled. Four AI voices: Ara on Free, plus Eve, Leo and Rex with Pro.
In the Tuner, tap a voice to hear it. The radio plays on in that voice from the next post. The short station idents are always in Ara.
Change how it sounds
Open the Tuner from the player. These are the settings that change what you hear.
- Speed: from 0.7 to 1.6 times.
- Pace: Tight, Relaxed or Spacious, with sliders for the pause after a post and after the name.
- Ambient bed: Off, Warm pad, Night drive or Radio hum, with its own volume.
- Transition chime: a soft two-note sound between posts.
- Read: Hosted or Raw post.
- Clean: posts with explicit language are not read. It is on unless you turn it off.
- Blocked words: add a word or phrase and posts that use it are not read.
- Sleep: stop after 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or at the end of the post that is playing.
Which posts it reads
You choose a channel and Frequo reads that channel's posts. Following reads the accounts you follow on X that are on Frequo. The other channels play public accounts that Frequo picks and checks. See all channels.
New posts are checked by moderation before a voice reads them, and anything unclear waits for a person. Politics is its own channel and only plays if you pick it.
Follow along on screen
The player shows the full text of the post that is playing, with its links, and a link to the original on X. The History page keeps what you heard on your device until each post is 24 hours old.
Fair to the people on air
- Every post is checked before a voice reads it.
- Hear something wrong? Tap Report under the post. It is skipped at once and a person reviews it.
- Posts and their audio are deleted 24 hours after they were posted, and sooner if they are deleted or made private on X.
- Anyone read on Frequo can ask to come off the air. See For creators.
