Hands-free news for your commute

Your commute is a good time to catch up. It is a bad time to stare at a phone. Here is how to hear the news instead.

· 3 min read

News on X moves fast, but keeping up means reading, and reading means looking down. Frequo turns public posts into a radio. It reads them aloud, one after another, grouped into channels. You choose the channels once, press play and leave the phone in your pocket.

Pick what you want to hear

Each channel is a station. Start with one, then switch whenever you like.

  • World: world news from wires, public agencies and established news organisations, freshest first.
  • Markets: what markets and business accounts are saying. Not financial advice.
  • Tech: the labs, the launches and the road ahead.
  • Sports: scores, trades and big calls, in segments by league.
  • Frequo Mix: Tech, Markets, Sports and World taking turns. The easy choice if you want a bit of everything.
  • Following: the accounts you follow on X that are on Frequo.
  • Politics: plays only when you pick it, and never in Mix.

Fit it to your trip

Mix and Following play in segments: 10 posts from one channel, then the next. On a short trip, set segments to 5 so you hear every channel before you arrive. On a long one, 20 gives you more of each.

Not interested in a topic? Switch it off in the Tuner, under Segments in Mix. It stays off in Mix, and still plays if you tune to that channel directly.

The speed goes from 0.7 to 1.6 times, so you can get through more on a short ride. A sleep timer stops the radio after 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or at the end of the post that is playing. A timer never cuts a post off: the one playing finishes, and the sound fades out at its end.

On the train or the bus

Your headset buttons work. Press next to skip a post and back to hear the last one again. The lock screen shows the account and the channel, so a glance tells you who is talking.

In the car

Please set your channel and your Tuner before you drive, and keep your eyes on the road. Our guide to listening while driving covers the details.

Through tunnels and dead zones

Underground stretches and rural roads drop signal. Drive-ahead buffering, part of Pro, keeps a stretch of upcoming posts cached, so the radio keeps playing through the gap. Without it, the player reconnects on its own when the signal comes back.

Know where each post comes from

Every clip starts with the name of the account, so you always know who is speaking. Posts are read as written. There are no summaries and no rewrites. Each clip links to the original post on X.

Heard something you want to read properly later? The History page keeps what you heard on your device, with the full text and the links, until the post is 24 hours old.

On Politics, opinion accounts are marked "Opinion", so you can tell a view from a report.

Free and Pro

  • Free: Frequo Mix in the Ara voice, 30 minutes a day, 8 skips a day and Drive mode.
  • Pro: no daily time limit, every channel, Following (pick your people from the list, or sync your X follows), unlimited skips, more voices, Drive-ahead buffering and channels of your own.
  • Four AI voices: Ara on Free, plus Eve, Leo and Rex with Pro.

See pricing for the details.

Where it works

In your browser, on a phone or a computer. Nothing to install. On your phone, add it to your Home Screen and it opens like an app.

At launch, Frequo is for the United States only: listening, accounts and Pro. Somewhere else? Join the waitlist and we will email you when it opens where you live.
